|Sir Joseph Wilson Swan was born on 31st of October 1828 in Bishop wear mouth in Sunderland England. He died on 27th of May 1914 aged 85 Warlingham Surrey England. Â In 1904 Swan was knighted by King Edward VII. His mother was called Isabella Cameron and his father was John Swan.|
Joseph Swan was famous for inventing the light bulb. The light bulb is important because if we didnâ€™t have lights today we would be having to use candles which means we would have less light than what we would now, but if we used candles it is good because instead of paying loads of money for electricity bills. In 1850 he had started to work on the light bulb.
Joseph Swans rival was Thomas Alva Edison. Thomas was born in February 11, 1847, Milan, Ohio, United States and died in October 18th 1931 aged 84.
